Huemul conservation working group meeting

Twenty-four participants representing 12 countries attended the workshop, where it was concluded that a “Huemul Deer Action Group” would be created as a sub-group of the IUCN DSG (this would be a similar group as the existing Eld’’s Deer Action Group, headed by Bill McShea).

On August 10 there was a meeting with Susana Gonzalez, chair of IUCN Deer Specialist Group (DSG). The people present were Gill (UK), McShea (USA), Corti (Chile), Flueck and Smith-Flueck (ARG). Dr Gonzalez was presented with the results of the workshop and the selection of Dr. Robin Gill as initial coordinator to form the Huemul Group. Dr. Gonzalez agreed to accept this new subgroup to the IUCN DSG.

Thus, the main result from the meeting is that the Huemul Deer Action Group is being formed as a sub-group of the IUCN DSG.
